Sarasota County Offices

The Sarasota County Charter was originally adopted on November 3, 1971.  It was amended and then repealed and replaced with a new charter on November 4, 1980. It has been amended twenty (20) times since November 4, 1980 with the most recent amendment on November 8, 2022. The purpose of the Sarasota County Charter is to allow the people of Sarasota County to adopt and operate by the Home Rule Charter set forth in the Constitution and the general laws of the State of Florida.  Among many constitutional activities and delineated powers are the rights for the Sarasota voters to elect candidates to hold various elected positions.

 

The majority of the County activity is governed by five elected County Commissioners. There are other constitutional offices to which candidates seek election and voters can vote for the office. Each of the County offices that are up for election in 2024 are listed below.
